So when Captain Greydon Thorne comes ashore and asks his son to join him at sea, it feels as if someone has redrawn Aram's entire world. At sea, Aram struggles to get along with the Wavestider's crew--especially second mate Makasa, a tough teenaged girl. Just as Aram starts to get his head above water, a band of vicious pirates attack the Wavestrider, turning his world upside down once again. As Aram and Makasa try to find their way home, they encounter creatures both terrible and wondrous, and Aram will seek to understand Azeroth's denizens as he draws them in his sketchbook. But the journey is hindered by Greydon's compass, which never points north. If the compass isn't leading Aram and Makasa home--to safety--to what destiny is it leading? Only Complaint From Daughter...Where is the Next One?!
By James R. Davis
Gave this to my daughter as an early present because she saw me pull it out of the box - was supposed to be a Christmas present. She recently because enthralled with WoW and started playing on her own account instead of using a character on mine (she's 10). She took the book to her room and devoured it in about 3 days. And when she was done, her only complaint was that it ended with an ending that seemed to indicate that there was supposed to be another one in the series and where was it? I'd say that was a successful book. I have not read it myself as it is more geared for the younger generation, but when someone comes away wanting more I'd say it is a good book.

Fun tale for adult WoW fans
By Jennifer M. Mann
As an adult who plays the game, I enjoyed this book. I listened to the audiobook verison, and it's entertainingly narrated. I look forward to the inevitable sequel (the book clearly ends before the story does).
If you're looking for a gritty book for grownups, this isn't for you. But it's not all fluff, either. There are battles and death, but also a heartwarming side to the main character's development. There's an undercurrent of the "moral of the story", but it's not preachy. The main characters are a human boy and teenaged girl, but devoted Horde players (like me) should still be able to appreciate their story.

Holds attention of a reluctant reader
By CJames
I bought this book for my 12 year old son. He does not like to read, so it can be a struggle to find something that we can use for literature class (he's home schooled).
He plays WoW and enjoys the game, and has no problem reading the quests or in-game books that are scattered through the world.
He is about half through the book and has asked about future books with these characters.
There is just enough character development at the beginning to give the reader a sense of "who is who" without going into too much drawn out description. The plot goes from one "adventure" to another at a fairly quick pace, so young readers will not get "bored". The interactions Aram (main character) has with others in the book does not seem forced or unrealistic (or old fashioned) regarding thoughts and behaviors.
I also read the book, so we could talk about different parts during lessons. I have to say, as an adult that loves to read, it held my attention and was able to make me laugh at certain parts. I love the way they incorporated Aram's artistic ability into illustrations for the book.
